"Almost as soon as the [2nd London Reserve] troops left Hertfordshire for Essex the second line of the East Anglian Division moved in. The Norfolk, Suffolk and Hampshire infantry battalions arrived at Watford on 20th May, 1915" The London Gunners come to Town.

The picture shows a group of soldiers who may well have been billeted in the houses in the background.

The Captain is probably John Francis Marsh who was one of two Captains in A Company on embarkation.

Harry Cull's shop is on the far side of the road.

The Isle of Wight Rifles embarked for service on the 31 July 1915 on the RMS Aquitania, and arrived in the Eastern Mediterranean about the 6th August 1915. A couple of days later they were landing at Suvla Bay. The first casualty incurred was Rifleman B H Wray who died on the 13th August 1915.
