Benjamin Crouch was baptised at Clophill, Bedfordshire on 31st August 1794. the son of Joseph Crouch.  His wife was Maria Wing, who was baptised at Pakenham, Suffolk, on 8th February, 1798, the daughter of Abraham and Sophia Wing. The couple married at St Andrews, Holborn, Middlesex on 10th March 1831, and he presumably took a farm tenancy in Tring at around this date. Their only child was Frederick, who was baptised at Tring on 17th July 1837. Benjamin Crouch is listed at Miswell Farm in the 1841-1881 censuses, and in 1871 he was farming 274 acres with 11 men and 3 boys.

Frederick went as a boarder at Berkhamsted Grammar School (1851) and married Emma Horn (born Clophill) in 1864. In 1871 he was a farmer living with Western Road, Tring with Emma (they had no children)  but had moved to Miswell Farm, with his father by 1881. He succeeded to the tenancy of the farm and lived their until his death in 1911.
