One of the oldest readable stones in the churchyard

 

Cussans, writing in 1878, in the Broadwater section ofThe following are the principal memorials in the churchyard. Two stones) both inclosed with iron railings, close by the East window :-

The Revd. Thomas Lloyd, born 26th July, 1772; died 5th December, 1851, rector of this parish for 44 years. Also Frances, relict of the above, born July] 5th, 1776; died June 2nd, 1853.

Sophia, second daughter of the Revd. T. Lloyd and Frances, his wife, born 3rd May, 1807; died 7th December, 1826.

On the south side of the church :-

Robert Walker, goldsmith, late of Ratcliff, in the parish of Stepney, County of Middlesex, departed this life 8th October, 1782, in the 87th year of his age.

Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. Thomas Rogers, and wife of Mr. Robert Walker, died 9th October, 1759, aged 57 years.

Thomas Rogers, late of St. Giles-in-the-Fields, Middlesex, died 30th July, 1752, aged 78. Elizabeth, wife of Mr. Robert Walker, late of Ratcliff, in the parish of Stepney, died 10th February, 1776, aged 74.

Samuel Sanders of Lloyd's Coffee House, in Lombard St., London, died 4th March, 1763, aged 38.

Mary Titmass, formerly of Munden Dane End, but late of Hertford, born 8th October, 1741; died 20th January, 1815.

Other memorials m the churchyard are chiefly to members of the families of Mardell and Gigney.


At the time this page was created the Hertfordshire Family History Society had surveyed this church and churchyard, but had not published a Memorial Inscriptions booklet for it.
