SARRATT

Is a parish and village in Cahio [sic] hundred, diocese of Rochester, archdeaconry of St. Albans, and union, deanery, and county court district of Watford, 21¾ miles from London, 6 north-west from'Watford Station, and north from Rickmansworth, on a feeder of the river Colne. The village is small; the parish contains 1,550 acres, and a population in 1861 of 696 partly employed in the paper mill. Fancy trimming is made here. The parish church of the Holy Cross is an ancient cruciform building, with low square tower. The living is a vicarage, annual value £243, with residence, in the gift of the executors of the late J. A. Gordon, Esq., of Moir Place, near Ware, and held by the Rev. Edward Ryley, MA. There is also a Baptist chapel.

Letters through Rickmansworth arrive at 8 a.m.; pillar box cleared at 4.45 p.m. Rickmansworth is the nearest money-order office.
