1861   Census   Charles W Allen (33, Commercial Clerk, Ironmonger, born Hoddesdon) was living in the High Street, Broxbourne, with his wife Emma (34, born St James, Middlesex) and children born in Adelaide, Australia ages 8 and 5.

1886   *   On October 30th, 1886, Henry (age 28) married Adelaide Amelia Allen (29), at St. Paul, Bow Common, Middlesex, London. Adelaide was living at 243 Bundett Road in London at the time of their marriage, her father is Charles William Allen a photographer. Witnesses at the wedding are: Henry Collis, Walter Allen and Amy Hayward Collis.
1889   *   In 1889 he's at Westgate Studio, St. Dunstan's Street, the corner of Station Road. Portrait, landscape and architectural photographer
1889   Probate   Died 31 December at 1 Hanover Place, Canterbury
1890-95   Directory   A. V. Elsden now photographer at  Hailey Lane address.
1891   *   Charles Wm. Allen (exors. of) Westgate Studio, St. Dunstan's St., Canterbury
1891   Census   Emma Lucy Allen (widow, living on own means) and son Roland (no occupation given) at 1 Hanover Place, Canterbury.
1891   Probate   1 July. Will proved by Roland Allen, of 1 Hanover Place, photographer, the son the sole executor.
1890s   *   Henry Beauchamp Collis (son in law) was photographer at Westgate Studio, Canterbury.

It is clear that most of this photographer's pictures will have been taken in Kent - and I would be very interested to know of any relating to Hertfordshire. These could include pictures of boys educated at Haileybury college.
