Fowl Stealing in 1872

James Stratton, an elderly man, of St. Stephen's, was charged with stealing two fowls, value 4s, the property of Mr. John Gomme, of St. Julian's, on Sunday, 21st inst. 

John Gomme describes raid on hen coop, and mentions his man Weedon. Police constables Quint, Sparks and Gazeley gave evidence, including the arrest of Stratton at his house in Christopher Yard. Case remanded for further evidence

Continuation from previous week. Thomas Powell, who had shared a cell with James Stratton, gave evidence. James committed for trial at the Midsummer Quarter Sessions.
