St Albans Cricket Club Annual Meeting at the Town Hall.

[Notes and Extracts]

18th report – balance in hand – increased subscription list – 14 matches, 9 won, 4 lost, one drawn due to weather – County played Norfolk on June 22nd & 23rd. –  During last winter the sum of £22 15s 4d was spent in further improvements to the ground by draining the lower end and levelling the west side, which was greatly needed. The pavilion has been erected on a piece of ground granted for the purpose by Lord Spencer, while Mr G F Arnold, his lordship’s tenant, generously conceded his interest without compensation, for which the committee elected him a life member of the club. It was opened on the occasion of the Norfolk match and the club has had the use of it since, but up to the present time the building has not been handed over by the Pavilion Committee. In April last your committee. looking to the fact of the boon which would be conferred by its erection, decided on behalf of the club, to accept the responsibility of any deficiency in subscriptions for that object to an amount not exceeding £50. The athletic sports were held on Whit-Monday in the same meadow Mr Reynolds  has lent in former years, when the weather being all that could be desired a first class gathering took place. That committee has contributed the sum of £25 in part liquidation of the pavilion guarantee, and also £12 14s 7d to the general fund.
