The first nine persons were declared elected.

The polling took place in the Corn Exchange [Hemel Hempstead] under the superintendence of Mr Stallon, as Chairman of the meeting, commencing on Friday at 12 noon and terminating on Saturday at 5 p.m. The voting was open, the votes being recorded by Mr Lovel Smeathman, assisted by Mr W. Saunders, and Mr F. S. Foster, assisted by Mr Gilmore. This method at least had the merit of being expeditious, and the public had the benefit of knowing the progress of the poll through the returns made every two hours, and displayed in the Vestry Hall windows. The figures, which indicated the chances of the respective candidates, were eagerly scanned, especially towards the close of the poll both on Friday and Saturday evenings, and hope rose or fell accordingly. The machinery worked very smoothly; and within a half-hour of the final close of the poll, the result was declared by the chairman from the Reading Room window facing the new Market Square, where the crowd had expectantly assembled. After the declaration the High Street soon lost its crowded appearance. One of the noteworthy features of the election was that Mr H. D. Woodman, Mr W. S. Elliott, and Mr F. Saunders, of the Grist House Farm, stood first from the beginning of the poll to the end.

The paper also contained a long and informative letter about the elections by F Breed.
