While the Red Lion, on the far side of the road, has been totally rebuilt, the small building to the left is still there. The White Hart (sign board on right of picture) also survives but the horse troughs outside both the pubs have gone. The 1912 Kelly's Directory for Hertfordshire shows Arthur Goodard as Landlord of the Red Lion, W. Hyaninson as landlord of the White Hart and Jackson & Co at 219 High Street, Watford.
