The Cyclist's Rest, Essenden Published by C. T. Oliver (RA series) Arthur Oliver was listed as a shopkeeper in 1912. Mrs Catherine Oliver is listed  in 1917 but not 1922. [Kelly's Directories]

Ann reports that the 1891 and 1901 census returns show thatt Diana Walby the aunt (by marriage) of William Walby was the owner of the Cyclists Rest in 1891 and again in 1901.   Her Granddaughter Catherine Saunders aged 19 in 1901 lived with her and was a waitress in the cafe which is described as a coffee tavern.
