Modern Berkhamsted (note current official spelling which differs from that in many old records and some modern indexes) consists of the historic parishes of Berkhamsted St Peter and Northchurch and is sometimes described as Great Berkhamsted to distinguish it from Little Berkhampstead on the other side of the county.
