Kate McDonnell says: I have some information about the Pate family who lived in Baldock and surrounding area.  The earliest confirmed date is the marriage of Thomas Pate to Sarah Breacher in Baldock on 4th July 1796.  I have been unable to confirm whether Thomas was born in Baldock, several were but I have had no luck in confirming which, if any, of them is "mine".  If anyone is interested, or if anyone has some info on Harwood (some confusion exists about a re-marriage) I would be happy to share anything helpful.  My ancestor left Baldock and moved to Brighton circa 1840 so my records in Hertfordshire end at that point.

You probably already know about the following entries (out of many for Pate) in the National Burial Index, which could be your Thomas and Sarah:

18 Feb 1816 Sarah PATE 37 Herts Baldock, St Mary the Virgin
3 Aug 1814 Thomas PATE 35 Herts Baldock, St Mary the Virgin

A check of the Baldock entry in the 1823/4 Pigot's directory for Hertfordshire proved negative for Pate - but of course the directory was very selective.
